Spelling and Vocabulary List-

Spelling List:
  1.   infection- a disease that spreads
  2. inducted- placed formally into a group
  3. cataract- a large waterfall
  4. catastrophe- a disaster
  5. cataclysm- a violent flood, earthquake, or other sudden change in the earth
  6. accidental- happening by chance
  7. optical- pertaining to the eyes
  8. agricultural- pertaining to farming
  9. political- pertaining to government
  10. their- a possessive pronoun
  11. there- in that place
  12. they're- the contraction for 'they are'
  13. vein- a blood vessel
  14. vain- proud
  15. vane- a flat piece of metal or cloth that shows the wind's direction
Reading Vocabulary:
  1. lilting- a cheerful or lively manner of speaking
  2. abominable- in a hateful way
  3. ostentatious- showy; pretentious; trying to attract attention
  4. yeomanry- a former class of English land-owning farmers
  5. nuisance- a person or thing that annoys

  7. penchant-a fondness, liking or preference
  8. egotism- excessive reference to oneself; self conceit
  9. criticism- evaluation of good and bad points
  10. strait- a canal or passage between two bodies of water
  11. straight- containing no angles or turns
  12. principal- most important person; chief; head of a school
  13. principle- fundamental belief
  14. it's- contraction form for 'it is'
  15. its- possessive pronoun

  2. incantation- casting of magical spells
  3. decidedly- extremely; cunningly
  4. vengeance- punishment in return for an injury or a wrong
