M is for Majesty: Day Two Continued

After spending the day in Yosemite, the students (and chaperones) are looking forward to a good nights' rest. And yet the memory of today is not something just meant to be enjoyed and then put aside.  Today the 6th grade has had the unique opportunity to explore Yosemite in a way that very few people ( if any)  have had the chance to do.  Students were asked to do two very simple things: First was to make a list of everything they see while they were hiking.  Second was to take notes on what they, if they were John Muir, would fight to protect.  While that task seemed simple enough, I was thoroughly impressed by the student's responses.  Now, many of us are aware of how important John Muir has been to the preservation and protection of the National parks and reservations of the United States.  However, very few people will get to experience these natural treasures they way the DRCS 6th grade has; in a pure and Godly way.  During devotions tonight,  I saw the majesty of the Yosemite Valley really sink in, and learned first hand what amazing hearts for Christ these children have.  The most interesting comment I heard will sum this up quite nicely: John Muir worked to save and protect the forests just like God worked to save and protect us.

"For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." Colossians 1: 19-20
