S is for San Francisco! Day Four

What a beautiful city! Today the class had the opportunity to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge (well...at least half way) and to think about what they would create if given the opportunity. After our Golden excursion, the class went to Pier 39 to enjoy the restaurants and shops that San Francisco is so famous for. We all hurried to get back on time to our caravan and we headed off to Haight Street where so many homeless and transient people have come to reside. And here is where we had the opportunity to show them a little love; a little piece of what DRCS is all about. The students help large carafes of steamy hot chocolate and passed out cups to everyone who would take one. At first, it was a little difficult. Being put in a situation like this might seem a little frightening, yet as the evening went on the 6th grade really got to show God's love. By this simple act of kindness someone in need can feel cared for. Students also asked if they could pray with the people they were handing out beverages to, and had the opportunity to minister to those in need. We, as Christians, sometimes take what we have for granted. The Lord has blessed us with so much, and sometimes we may not see what exactly we have been given. This excursion is so important for the students to be a part of, and learn a little bit of what it means to suffer for fellow believers. But we are to see this suffering as a time of joy in helping our fellow man. When we serve others in a capacity like this we are not only giving them something to drink, but something more to comfort them and fill them up entirely. And that is Jesus.
