T is for Thankful: Day Six

My apologies for the lateness of this posting! Due to unfortunate and unforeseeable circumstances, several peoples belongings have unfortunately been absconded with while out vans were sitting in a parking area Thursday afternoon.  Luckily no one was in the vans at the time and no one was hurt.  Thursday was a memorable day for sure.  As an English major, one starts to appreciate the simple ironies that life can sometimes bring.  Yesterday the 6th grade visited Alcatraz island, which was once home to some of the most sinister criminals of the era.  After visiting the island we had lunch on Pier 39 then headed back to the vans to discover them broken into.  In all honesty, I was surprised and impressed by the students and man of their reactions.  Even though some of their belongings had been taken, many of them were more concerned for their friends.  Several of the students tried to cheer up another who had lost most of her souvenirs and jewelry.  They ran to me and told me that they had been able to cheer her up.  When I asked how, I was absolutely stunned and proud.  They had read to her the verses in Mark 6, were we are being told not to store treasures up on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but to store up our treasures in heaven.  I'll admit that even before this, even I was a little upset about the things that were take from our van.  THE most important thing that the students needed to take away from this trip was that Jesus died for them and loves them more than anything.  I think they demonstrated their understanding of that quite perfectly..
